Drum Circle & Spirit
The Westminster SpiritDance® Drum Circle is a meditative drum circle in Maryland which is facilitated by Cathy Flinn and held year-round. Participants are led in a gentle meditation, then given time for personal journey. It's held indoors during winter or rain, and held outdoors during nice weather. Dress for the weather and bring a folding chair or blanket, spring through fall.
It's been proven that drumming synchronizes the frequencies in the left and right brain hemispheres, prompting the relaxation response. This state of meditation brings balance to the body so it can heal. Community drumming has been consistently proven to reduce stress, create a strong sense of community (even among strangers), and produce a profound relaxation of both the mind and body. Those who drum or simply listen to the drumming around them relax deeply. Drumming creates the environment where self-healing can take place.
No drumming experience is necessary. We begin with a short guided meditation or story, we then drum the heartbeat, then proceed to the eagle beat for personal journey. The heartbeat helps each person in the circle to ground and connect with his or her own heart and Mother Earth. Next, the eagle beat allows everyone to connect with the Divine. This is explained at each event, so even if you have never drummed before, this is a totally relaxing experience. There are lender instruments if you don't have one of your own; just request one when you call to confirm.
Reservations are necessary!
Call 410-596-3022 or email by Friday afternoon to confirm your attendance, request a drum or need directions. Leave your phone number in case of an emergency or a winter storm cancellation. If the drum circle is cancelled for any reason, the recorded message will say so. If you email your reservation and aren't emailed back, it hasn't been received so please call to confirm.
Complete these steps to receive the twice-monthly drum circle reminders. Your name will be removed from the reminder mailing list after three months' inattendance.
